Not sure i entirely agree. Creative controls seem to be more of a gimmick to me.  Example being the 'Power Glove.'  Maybe I'm just old fashioned, but I feel a lot less in control with motion sensing equipment.

Speaking of super mario, I've been using my newly acquired modded xbox to play snes games..a system I never owned.  Just finished Chrono Trigger, now playing Super Mario RPG.  These 20 hour games are killing my social life.

Just to be sure, by "controls" I mean the mapping between buttons/motion/drawing/whatever to the onscreen action. By "interface" I mean the actual buttons/sensors/touchscreen/whatever. I think we might be in agreement.

The Power Glove was definitely a gimmick, and the Wiimote also was to a good degree. The difference between the two I believe is that the Wiimote was created specifically to allow for new types of games (similar to the N64's controller). The Power Glove was made to play old games in a different way. But the Power Glove couldn't give a game's controls (which button does what) much consideration. Some Wii games fail for the very same reason.

You had a Genesis, didn't you? How does it feel catching up on old Nintendo games? I stopped playing Phantasy Star IV, but I should really continue. Not a huge RPG fan though.

I think I mixed up 'controls' and 'interface.'

Phantasy Star was my introduction to RPG's and it's sequels made me a fan of the genre.  The biggest difference I notice when playing these old Square rpg's on the snes is that there is a definite 'sillyness factor' present.  PS was pretty much always serious, the forth installment had exceptions.  These games are also a lot less challenging than I thought they would be, which I found disappointing.  Otherwise, it's interesting to experience this level of progression I missed before when I went straight from gameboy to n64.
